在过去十年中，每位入选的“全球高被引科学家”都发表了多篇在Web of Science™同年、同学科领域引用表现位于前1%的“高被引论文™”。然而，引用表现并非入选的唯一选择指标，基于定性分析和专家判断会进一步对初步候选人名单进行筛选。
